Question:

Poll: Do I return to work or not?

I have been home for almost four years, due to the birth of twins. They are now almost 4, their siblings are 17 and 19. I have heard my old employer may have an opening and although I originally planned to return to work when my twins went to kindergarten, this chance may not arise then. The twins will need some type of pre-school anyway to be socialized for school, which we had planned to do the year before school anyway and would have had to come up with a way to pay for it. They do not go to school for 2 more years the way their birthday falls. I still would only take home about half my actual salary due to preschool/daycare costs, which is part of the reason I left my job. Plus some days I think I may go crazy and would like to be around adults again.

  1. I definitely think you should go back to work. Yes half of your salary may not seem like it's worth it, but it is extra spending money. If you planned on your kids going to pre-school anyways it's better financially. I think for the socializing part, the earlier you start them in daycare/pre-school the better!

  2. I think you should back to work. Work sometimes can save your sanity. Besides, you seem like a great mom, and like you said the twins need to socialize. Go for it girl!

  3. If you already know that one day you are going back to work anyway, you should check this possible opening,  even if you bring a little money, the sooner you go back  the better, because you will see the competition is fierce, too many people looking for jobs and by the time you decide it you might be out of date for the market.

  4. Overall I think you sound like you want to go back to work more than you want to stay home. I'd go for the job, maybe you can start part-time and see how it goes.

  5. As you obviously know, there are pros and cons to going back to work, and to staying home. If you really enjoyed your job, and this opening may not come again, then perhaps you should go back. Make a list of the good and bad aspects of both. Don't forget to consider what your husband/partner feels. Good luck!

  6. i think you should.  It sounds like you want to.  Plus if its almost time for your kids to go to school anyway, you may as well take the job you want.  You may not get the benefits of your full pay right now due to daycare costs, but at least you get some of it and when your kids are in school you'll be working at the job you want and not be paying for daycare anymore.

  7. Of course not. Your kids need you to be a full time mom.
