  17. Based on the answers of the other contributors, it has never been more abundantly clear that we, in  America, have decided to embrace mediocrity as the standard for restaurant dining. I watch multitudes of fine restaurants owned by people who are passionate about food, and how it is prepared and served get pushed out of the marketplace. Olive Garden claims its "chefs" are trained in Tuscany. Yeah right! There must be a Tuscany in Ohio. Applebees? TGI Fridays? Chili's? Get real. The one thing they have in common is that there isn't a thimble full of creativity among them. The other thing they have in common is that they can hire the likes of Tyler Florence to lull you into believing they are  creative

The best restaurant I have ever eaten in is called Nadia's. It is on State St. in Madison, Wisconsin. It serves moderately priced French Cuisine served by pleasant servers in nice surroundings. In second place is a place called the Stinking Rose in North Beach in San Francisco. It has, as far as I know, only 2 items on its menu that don't have garlic in them. And they aren't desserts. Try one of them and then tell mehow good Applebee's is.
