Poll : How do you deal with taking a red eye flight across country?

I like to take red eye flights. There are many advantages. First they are a little cheaper, second (which I love) the airplane almost always is half full so you can take two or three seats, and sleep during the whole trip.  Also since it is in the middle of the night, almost everyone is sleeping or reading, lights are out so you can rest. I like to take these because I can do a lot of things around the house before leaving, I get to the airport tired, I sleep during the whole trip and when I arrive I am fresh and ready to start enjoying my trip.  Since airports don't have so much people during these hours even to pick up your luggage and rent your car is better since you don't have to wait long lines. Buy a very large coffee the second i get off the plane, and sleep in the taxi (I cannot sleep on planes)

Just sleep through the flight, so when you wake up, you'll be more refreshed and much less jetlagged.  It's really the only thing that helps =]  Avoid alcohol and caffeine before you leave, because they will dehydrate you and keep you up much later than you'll care for.

As you probably already know going east is always worse than west, that said I'm going to give you a very honest answer.  I've done many cross-country and from eastcoast to UK and I have never dealt well with them.  Yes, over 25 years of dealing with them and have used every trick, program, herbal medication and whatever - still those flights are tough.  However, I do prefer them to day flights which leave me messed up for 3 days afterwards.  It does help to eat very lightly, don't consume alcohol and wear those special socks made for long flights - otherwise welcome to flying which is only getting worse.
