Never, ever, ever wait for someone else to make the first move.  If you're nervous, then make the first move gentle...but don't wait.  Otherwise, 5 years later, you'll find out they were waiting for *you* to make the first move, and...it just doesn't make sense.

Okay - to answer your question, as shy as I am I would still have to say go for it. There is nothing wrong with a straight girl making advances toward another straight girl. Nothing at all.
