Should all money that parents spend on educating their children be tax deductible? This includes private/charter school tuition bills, homeschooling expenses, college tuition, and school supplies.

Please vote Yes or No and provide an explanation as to why you feel that way.

Thanks!

  1. no....partially yes but not 100%...there are electing to send their children to private schools (charter schools are considered public in my area anyway) rather than the public school...if you buy a car in NYC its not deductible even though the Metro is readily available

  2. Partially, for college as others have said.  There are those that can send their children to a very expensive private school and those that can only afford a community college.  And there are those kids that are just s******g around in school and not serious about an education at all.

  3. For college--Yes. The cost of going to college in the US has gotten so high that parents need a little help.

  4. yes.

    My explanation:

the money spent by parents on their childrens educations drastically reduces the money spent by the government on those same children later in life.....i.e. welfare, foodstamps, etc...

also the money I spend on school supplies for myself is 100% tax deductable and a portion of what I spend on my childrens public school education is currently tax deductable.

Public school is no longer a "free" education. I generally spend about $300 per semester per child out of pocket not including clothes.
