Pfft...Superman started this.

And I think that explains a lot.  He was originally created back in 1938 folks.  Wearing tights or anything that might *show off* body parts was likely not only controversial but also illegal too back then.

So basically, it boils down to answering the question of: "How do we, as comic book artists, *show his manhood* without 'violating his modesty' or any decency laws ?"  And the answer is the marble-bag over tights look.  I don't like it either...

It happens though...it's become a staple of the industry now, a thing that folks expect.  While writers and artists are free now, more or less, to show off whatever they want directly (Emma Frost anyone?), most hero outfits seem to be designed to show off bits without just being "nude" in the tights.  You could say the art form is pervy that way.

It's one of the reasons, I'd take it, why people generally *don't* wear tight-n-shinies in public, even as fitness gear...they instantly assume immodesty where none exists.

its not underwear its protective gear. like a cup. but it protects the buttocks too. mostly for guys but girls can wear it too
