A recently conducted poll by the Federation of International Cricketers’ Association (FICA) shows that most cricketers want the International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-Stanley-Steele-c53230 of match/spot-fixing.
It has been revealed, that the members of the association believe that the three http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, during the summer of 2010.
The trio were handed bans by the International Cricket Council. Salman Butt has been banned for 10, Asif for seven and Amir for five years.
Speaking on the appointment of a new chief for ICC’s Anti-corruption and security unit (ACSU), the chief executive of FICA, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Timothy-Brian-Alexander-May-c93981 said, “It becomes increasingly difficult for them to compile enough satisfactory evidence to convict various players. Perhaps the new guy will have a different approach.”
Elaborating the outcome of the FICA poll which was taken before the conclusion of the ICC World Cup 2011 in April this year, he said, “Certainly the players under the FICA banner feel very strongly about spot-fixing and match-fixing and eradicating it from our game, and one of the ways of doing that is making an example of players who do creep into the claws of corruption.''
FICA, does not have representatives from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045.
Meanwhile, these polls have further strengthened the statement of the Test captain of the English team, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AJ-Strauss-c964, who just last week, insisted that the ACSU was under resourced and was not equipped to counter or nab match-fixers.
Strauss also emphasised on the need for introducing stricter punishments for anyone involved in spot-fixing.
The ICC on Wednesday, named Yogendra Pal Singh, as the new head of its ACSU. He will be taking charge from the outgoing compatriot, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ghante-Vasudeva-Murthy-Ravi-c59951 Sawani, who has been running the unit since November of 2007.
During Ravi’s time the ACSU, failed to make fruitful strides against corruption in the game. It is expected that Pal Singh, who is a former police officer, has the required experience to root out the menace of corruption from the game of cricket.
The new appointment is believed to have been taken in light of ICC’s renewed efforts against players active in fixing activities.
