Question:

Poll for cat people. Would you buy a photo book detailing the life of a shelter cat?

I'm thinking of fund raising ideas, and am considering photographing the journey of a cat from the time they are chosen from the pound to the time that they are adopted.

Be honest. A decent idea, or a swing and a miss?

  1.   It's an intriguing idea and any funds that help animals is honorable, just don't know if I'll be around when it enters its 9th life.

  2. I think it is a good idea what you have in mind to do.

  3. Buy it? No. Think it'd be...interesting... yes!

  4. Its a tearjerker. I think it would be a fantastic idea.

  5. I would buy it if it was about the pissed off kitty in your pic! :)

  6. I thinks its a good idea after people see the photos they may feel the need to rescue a cat or dog

  7. I think it sounds like a good idea, I would buy it.

  8. Most shelter cats have a very short stay between the time they arrive and get adopted..why not a story of the plight about the ones the shelter did not choose to put up for adoption due to limited space.

  9. it all depends on how cute the photos are and the manner in which it's written. there are tons of people who will buy a book with cute pictures of kittens or cats in costumes, and a few people who will buy it just to support a charity.

  10. I think that would be awesome! I have two cats; one being born into our family from another cat (now deceased) and one cat that we literally found on the streets. She was so fragile and weak, yet so sweet...after a while, anyways. We figure she had been abused, since when we would go to touch her for the longest time she would shrink back.

Now she's the best cat you can imagine! She has more life and personality than more people that I know.

So I say, go for it :] I'll definitly buy that book.

  11. Well it's not much of a journey if they're still there.  Do you mean "happy ending" stories of cats that have been adopted?  If so, yes, that would be a nice idea.  Why not just donate your time at a shelter?  If you're good at taking pics most shelters need someone that came come in regularly and get pics for Petfinder.com.  The quicker they can get pics taken and online, the quicker the cats can get adopted.

  12. Hey there Sweetie! I think that would be a GREAT idea! In fact, please let me know when you've completed it and I would be honored to make a purchase for a great cause!

Here's a thought :  I think this would be a FANTASTIC sell if perhaps a personal touch was added into the mix. -  As with the book, soon to be motion picture, " Marley and Me " , the possible evolving relationship of the loving person who is nurturing the cat could be a key element to this . Perhaps we could go on this journey though the eyes of a particular shelter worker who has formed an emotional bond with this dear feline. I really think you have the early stages of something powerful here. - If we can get a relationship angle to this, - this could be ENORMOUS ! xoxoxoxo...

  13. I don't know.  I think that unless it was the cat I just adopted, I wouldn't care.  It would be too much like an episode from "Animal Cops".

Plus, every animal's story is different.

You couldn't do a book for each animal, because you don't know which will get homes and which won't.  I guess you could team up with a no kill shelter and do "memory books" for all the animals to sell for an additional fee.

    Other ideas:

A calendar that tells "success stories" with pics of the animals in their new homes would be cool.

Example:  pics of a cute cat with a caption something like:

"Meet Fluffy.  She was found wandering sick and cold at a school yard.  She was nursed back to health and the Johnson family fell in love at first sight.  Now Fluffy spends her days sleeping in the sun, and playing tag with the family dog."

It's a good idea because everyone loves a happy ending.  Everyone loves to see "the little guy make good".

Everyone is nosy-(Oh, I mean curious) about what happens to the animals that get homes.

    Another example:

    Pictures of a cute animal.

    Name: Fluffy

    Favorite food: Doritos

Favorite activity: Playing tag with the family dog

Life Motto:  A sunny nap a day keeps the vet away

(You would do a bunch of different things for the different animals)

Merchandise with shelter animals on it.

Examples:  Coffee mugs, shirts, totebags (all the rage now for groceries instead of plastic), hats, bumperstickers.

    EDIT TO ADD:

I forgot to mention that calendars are super cheap to make at Costco.  You get a bunch of really nice ones for cheap, thus increasing profits.
