Yes, for me...and that's why I make sure to bring along a nice *big* towel.  Or two.

And if any sand does start to interfere...then into the water, to de-sand and then continue...

The concept sounds lovely. But in practice, not at all comfy. The blanket/towel bunches up. The sand gets everywhere and feels like sandpaper. The ocean breeze blows the sand around.

just keep an eye out for the incoming tide, or it wont be just the sand you'll be having problems with :)

No, this is one of those things that seems better than it actually is.  I can think of many other places that work better.

If there was a thick enough blanket then yes but sand is some cracks just isn't cool.

Make sure you use a blanket, not just on the sand, otherwise it feels like you're masturbating with sandpaper!!!

Ok, sand does go in the wrong places and it was weird so we went into the sean, then back out again then we went into the hotel and it was ok

not directly on the beach, maybe on a towel, and with a certain person, cali is a great place with really awesome beaches, good weather and a consistantly decent looking crowd at all the beaches.

I would go for the wodden dock/pier myself, at least then the only thing you have to worry about is getting splinters in places that don't need to be thought about!

YES!!! Pea Gravel beaches on rivers or steams will cure the sand issue.
