  1. As chosen by the two leading online beer rating websites: ratebeer.com and beeradvocate.com

    The answer is:

    Westvleteran Abt 12.

As one of the remaining 6 Trappist breweries, the monks at Westvleteran make a very fine beer.  This beer is near impossible to get outside of Belgium.  But, occasionally, people illegally (or unethically) import this beer to the U.S.

I have had this beer twice.  A Belgian strong ale with 10.2% alcohol by volume, it certainly is complex and worth a shot.  Part of this beer's high rating, however, comes from the mystique around it.  The monks do not want it distributed.  They sell it at the monastery on certain days of the week, and don't actually distribute even within Belgium.  I think that the rarity of this beer heightens its perceived greatness.  Not to say, of course, that this isn't wonderful beer ... it is!  But I have had other beers that I enjoy more...

My personal favorite is Kalamazoo Brewing Company (Bells) Expedition Stout!

  2. Ambar

  3. Sierra Nevada in the bar.

    Corona in the sun.

And at least six different new types to try at home.

  4. Shiner Bock, keeping it true to Texas

  5. What ever it is that I am drinking.

Laura wow you almost scored 100%. If only you listed Heineken in your last paragraph.

  6. Sapporo.

  7. Indio Draft.  A smooth, dark beer.  Really hits the spot.  On a hot summer day like today, there is nothing like it to reward yourself at the end of the day.  It's a Tecate product, served in Mexico, where I live.  I don't know if it's available in the U.S.  If not, then the next time you visit Mexico, you have to try an Indio.  Desayuno de campeones!

  8. not being a big beer fan personally, i'm still going to have to go with Leinenkugel's Sunset Wheat...or maybe Miller High Life. :)

  9. Anchor Steam, Yeungling, nothing light for God sakes. If you're gonna drink light beer, you might as well drink water.

  10. Dos Equis XX

    Oh yeah Cold Beer

  11. sierra nevada

  12. http://www.corona.com/ is the best for you but maybe not the best tasting

  13. Fuller's London Porter!

  14. Any beer by Sam Adams. Love them all....

  15. Silly question ... but ....

Fuller's ESB as the most reliable London cask ale (Fullers pubs look after their beer).

My "local" has a rotating well kept 12 barrels of live unpasturised, uncarbonated beer (12 different breweries), beer chosen by "Mico", and which makes you realise that no beer is ever the same or can truly qualify as best .... every beer has its own distinct characteristic defined by the hops, barley, or wheat.

My "international" favourite is I guess Tripel Westmalle (9.5% ABV) a trappist recipie unchanged for more than 50 years, but Belgium also have six other trappist breweries, not to mention Leffe & Duvel ....  and then there's Pilsner Urquell, Budvar from Czech .... Oh I give up !

Just please don't try and pass off fizzy bottles and cans (likes of Budweiser, Sapporo, Millers, Corona, Red Stripe, etc.) as proper beer :-)

  16. murphy's irish stout
