I agree that they do talk about him a little too much. But since he's from my home state i can't help but turn the TV up everytime he comes on. There is a sense of pride that 2 of the olympic swimmers come from my state and very close to my home town.

me too.  There are better or similar athletes in other sports, but you won't hear about them just because there are not as many medals in those sports as there are in swimming.  There ave over 40 swimming medals awarded, and just ONE in singles tennis, badminton, or worse in team sports like basketball.

To add to this, Phelps is not even the fastest and thus not the best swimmer in the world.  That title always goes to the winner of swimming's SHOWCASE event, the 100 meter freestyle. Phelps has never and will never win that event.

Sure, I am happy for Michael Phelps. His accomplishment is tremendous. But does he have to be interviewed after every heat, semi-final and final?

I'm sure he is just as tired of answering the same stupid questions as we are of hearing them.

I think it should also be noted that I don't think any other sport provides so many opportunities for medals.  Therefore, it is not really fair to call him the greatest Olympic athlete ever--he has just had more opportunities than other athletes.  

In short---YES I'M tired of hearing about MP and swimming in general.

I'm getting a bit tired of hearing about him and he doesn't help matters any when he clearly loves the attention and encourages it. I don't remember Mark Spitz (7-time gold medal winner in swimming at the 1972 Olympics) behaving this way. He was actually rather quiet and shy.
