Question:

Pollotarian?

About a month ago I became a pollotarian. It hasn't been too hard but I would like some advice from other pollotarians. I'm 13 so I think it would be too hard to be a veggie at my age, especially since I'm so picky.

  1. I used to be a pesco-pollo. It was no biggie for me to make the transition to no animal flesh.

I guess my best advice is to try to watch your intake of chicken. You don't want to eat it at every meal, obviously. Try to increase your intake of other protein sources (legumes, seeds, nuts, etc) at the same time.

Don't fry the chicken all that much; it's definitely not very healthy.

I'm sure you can find recipes all over the place. See if your mom will show you how to cook some easy dishes. Replace ground beef with ground turkey or chicken in pasta sauce.

You'll be fine. Good luck to you.

  2. Hi - i am not a pollotarian or veggie anything, but I am a chef and also big into watching my diet, so I will try to help you as best I can. Are you trying to be strict pollo? no fish? if you are just pollo the way I understand it is chicken is ok, are you going to include eggs? and how about dairy?

Depending on what you decide i have a few suggestions/ advice.

Since you are young one of the biggest things for you is going to be if your parents are on board with this. Having any sort of structured diet is expensive. Are they going to be willing to stock chicken, as well as nuts and legumes(beans)? all of these are important sources of protein. with and vegetarian life style you need to be sure you still get the proper amount of complete proteins in your diet, esp. since you are still growing.

I would suggest if your parents are willing, that you buy chicken breast in bulk to start - its a quick and easy snack - buy the chicken and a couple of good marinades(you can buy some good pre made ones at the super market - Lowry's makes excellent ones. Also stock some nuts(not salted) and then focus on salads and other fresh veggies. but most important you should talk to your doctor or a dietician about this because of your young age. hope this helps alittle!

  3. It may of beign hard if you have stopped eating red meat all together, you should wean yourself off it gradually. You could try eating fake meat products such as Quorn, That's how I became a veggie, I only ever ate chicken anyway but I gradually stopped, now I don't eat any at all, and havn't for the past few years. Good luck! :)

  4. A "pollotarian" is not any type of vegetarian..it's a type of omnivore.   What advise do you need exactly?  Talk to your family doctor for nutrition information.

  5. i actually became a vegetarian at 12. i'm now 14 and a vegan. i know many young people that are veg and young, so there's no need to use that as an excuse.

if you're looking to go vegetarian, or you have any meat cravings, you can go to your local whole foods market.

expensive, yes. but they have so much good vegetarian/vegan food. it's amazing! :]

    (: <3 !
