Polls: Women in the Army, navy, or coast gaurd opinions?

And how old do u have to be to going basic training?? Im almost 16 but will be done school a year early so ill be just over 17..so.. i was wondering if i could start then if I so decide to do so?

And what is your opinion as to women in the forces??

What you say wont impact my desicion but i want to know what ya'll think.

My opinion on women in the army is that, if they can meet the same standards of physical and mental fitness as anybody else can, then they should be allowed in. However, I don't want some 115-pound girl left with a group of GI's, who, in turn, will have to put themselves in more danger to look out for her.

Also, all prospective soldiers should be able to carry off a wounded soldier from the field. Men or women. That's common sense.

Generally, the same holds true for all services; you must be 18, or 17 with the permission of parents.  Talk to your recruiter, or the service academy, for more details.

I'm perfectly fine with women in any military role - *IF* they are qualified.  While there are few women suited for front-line infantry work, they *DO* exist.  Everything from technical support to piloting should be open to any capable and willing woman.  (Note that capable comes first.)  Our drill sergeant used to tell us, "There are no women in the Army, only men; some of them are female."

Incidentally, you left out the Air Farce and Marines - both have roles for women, even within existing limitations.  Go where your talents and desire take you.  (Note that talents comes first.)

If you are under 18, you need permission from a parent to enlist. Also, all of the services now require a HS diploma or GED. I was in the navy, my father and son-in-law were both in the Army. My son is in the Coast Guard, and in my opinion, women in the Coast Guard get the most equal opportunity to select rate, get training and advance in rank, compared to the others services.
