  1. I've been through snow storms in Canada (38 inches overnight), ice storms (3/4") in the southeast US and flooding rains in central america.  Been through several hurricanes including Katrina (in Birmingham, AL) and close calls with tornadoes.  Been  close to a tornado that killed several people and trashed several cottages on a lake in Canada.  I think the tornado is the scariest.

  2. i remember that ice storm. i worked at the animal shelter then. thank goodness i knew how to drive on ice. no one would go to the shelter but me. all were too scared to go. if i had to i would have walked there to take care of those animals. i have also been threw a hurricane. it was not as bad as the last one that hit the coast. it still was scary.

  3. my boyfriend lost a house in the illinois flood of 93.  and it's flooding again

  4. floods and hurricanes in Fl. but I just emailed some of my relatives in Iowa to see if they are OK.  I just read that on Yahoo news.

  5. Fortunately, I've never been through any of those. Sure hope the luck holds out. I've seen on the news pictures of the people who have lost their homes and everything. I feel so sad for them........

  6. Back in my childhood we lost our home in a horrendous hurricane that was considered one of the worst of that time. My dad almost died and several trees fell on our home while we were in it. My dad was pinned under a counter. My mother fainted, and I sat there crying and holding on to my dog and cat, waiting for help.

In 2001, I lost my own home in a series of severe snow/ice storms. The roof collapsed around me but I 'd already put my pets in the car as I kept hearing noises, and they were acting as though something was wrong. I walked into one room and the one that I had just been standing in, while  calling my sons, collapsed. Scary days they were..

  7. tornados

  8. Yes.

IT network administrator at a major hospital in the middle of Katrina.

Of course, this poll will be somewhat biased. Most people that have never been in a major disaster probably won't click and bother to answer the question.

  9. I went through the ice storm too, but I wouldn't count that as a major disaster. like quakes and the flooding that is going on right now,  across the states.  My parents however, are survivors of Hurricane Charlie. They lost all but the shirts on their backs. They were fortunate enough to have great insurance and a nice savings. I feel sorry for those people who are currently watching their homes literally float away. A good many of them do not even have flood coverage.  What are they to do ? We should, those of us who have been lucky enough to avoid these disasters, lend a hand to those less fortunate.

  10. Thankfully I have not...No big storms hit here where I live in California.....But feel bad for those who have.....:)

  11. Nothing too extreme yet , a few blizzards is all.

  12. we've had a few earthquakes, nothing too terribly major though. i think the biggest was a 6. or something...
