What are the costs of pollution to China? Why are they willing to halt production so dramatically to reduce pollution?

  1. By shutting down specific pollution-generating factories, they receive 'carbon offset' money taken from us.

    China, like other countries, ramped up industries and other systems that generate huge amounts of pollution in recent years. They did this knowing that they could then receive cash forcibly taken from the US in order to 'reduce' their pollution.  It was a clever scheme from the start.

    It is worth noting that by shutting down productivity in the US through punitive 'carbon offset' taxes, that productivity is shifted to other countries such as China and India that have poor pollution controls. So, MORE pollution is generated to produce the same goods.
