Both are great but it depends on your age

Like if your younger and in high school or something a movie is usually good for a first date because you can cuddle up in the cinemas or if it's somebody you don't know very well & you end up not liking them very much you don't need to worry about awkward conversation (laughs)

but restaurants are great too, it's a better way to get to know somebody.

You can't talk at a movie so if you are trying to get to know someone you need somewhere you can talk:  restaurant, museum, zoo, botanical garden.  If it's someone you have been dating a while then a movie is okay.
