Poltergeist and psychokenisis - serious replies only please?

My husband and I seperated last Saturday after years of constant struggle due to in-laws etc

I was home in my bed, wide awake thinking over the past years of troubles and events that had unfolded that day, the more I thought, the angrier I got with myself that I had put up with so much c**p..next thing, I hear this bang on the floor boards under my bed, the force so strong, the bed shook. I got up and woke my sister who had come over to keep me company. She of course said it was my imagination.

My sis & I stayed up chatting about how I was feeling, the next thing the banging started again in the hall way outside my bedroom door. I raced up the hall bcos my son was sleeping in the room. The banging continued & the floor boards seem to be lifting off the floor. We were totally freaked out. I thought it was my husband playing some sick joke.

We pulled ourselves together and went under the house with a wine bottle 4 a weapon and found nobody & nothing there. Was it a poltergeist?

  1. i could have been a poltergeists. Poltergeists come when someone is in lots of stress releases the stress then gets angry. that happens in some cases.

  2. Sounds more like a plumbing problem then anything paranormal , just going on your description.

A poltergeist is German for noisy ghost.

  3. I have no idea of what made the noise , but It sure was nothing supernatural . Ghosts , zombies , angels , gods , evil eye , spells ,etc can only appear to superstitious people . Drop all of your superstitions , and enjoy life .

  4. Very strange and interesting.  I assume you think it was your husband?  Was it an older house?  Could it have been haunted by another spirit that didn't want you and your Son there?

  5. Since poltergeists are purely imaginary, this seems unlikely.

Probably either a wind gust or an animal, the type of which is hard to determine without knowing where in the world you live.

Your comment about the wine bottle is interesting.

    .

  6. I am not so sure why skeptics troll this forum so much. If you don't believe or agree with these types of experiences, please take your 2 points to another category.

Anyway, to answer your question, it is possible that this fits the poltergeist description of events. Not the amateur ghost hunting version, but the Parapsychologist version. Many amateur's view a poltergeist as just another flavor of a ghost and disagree with the professional interpretation. Parapsychologists view a poltergeist as a "recurrent spontaneous psychokinetic activity". In other words, a person under severe stress suddenly and unknowingly, releases stress and tension in the form of psychokinesis instead of normal means.

Both of these occurrences fit the bill of possible poltergeist activity, with you being the agent who is releasing this focused energy. Fear not, these occurrences typically subside as the person finds other outlets for their stress and is able to focus it in other ways or sorts it out emotionally.

This is not to say that there may be a logical explanation, but what you have stated does give a plausible possibility to PK and poltergeist activity.

  7. BP provided a good answer of how parapsychologist theorize that psychokinesis and poltergeist activity may be related.

However. he was a little incomplete in his description of the theory involving stress. The theory suggest that unexpressed emotional conflict and no way to express it in a healthy way causes stress that then releases itself (unknown to the user).

Additional healthy ways to deal with any stress is never a bad idea but it is not what it required here.

Finding a way to express this emotional conflict in a healthy way is more precisely what may be required.

Talking to you sister was an excellent start.

However, who have you not expressed this conflict to (your parents, your in laws, your ex. etc.)

Family counseling has stopped all poltergeist activity it has ever encountered.

Further some skeptics on YA seem to suggest that there is a large body of poltergeist cases that have gone unexamined before proposing theories. This is simply not true and another wishful belief by those who can not be bothered to take the time to examine the actual research much less conduct research themselves.

Also, I will give you the benefit of the doubt that your are an intelligent person that has either considered normal explanations and found them lacking or you have the willingness and know how to look for normal explanations and don't need to post in this section for simplistic (at best) advice on how to pursue that aspect of your experience.

    The more you know....

  8. I would have to agree that if you have ruled out all real life explanations than what you have left is?

It is not uncommon for emotional stress, and anger to manifest itself into  Poltergeist type activity.

The suppressed energy comes to life so to speak in a noisy way. The energy imprints itself into the things, and in return the stored energy is released causing the noises we associate with poltergeist.

  9. Come on guys she says 'serious replies only please' that means she wants you to agree that it was a ghost!

Lots of possible explanations, thunder, earth tremor, heavy machinery in area, your kid, house expanding/ contracting, big jet overhead, husband playing some sick joke..... dreaming, unbridled imagination, delusion....

    No it wasn't a poltergeist.

    ---------------------------

I am not 'trolling' this is honestly what I believe.

I find it more amazing that someone should attribute a few thuds to the supernatural.

And I notice Bp Guy is using this as an opportunity to promote his own website.

  10. Thumbs up for getting up and going down to investigate. That's the first step to figuring out what's going on.

That being said, the cause for the banging would probably not be very apparent. The kind of banging you describe is not atypical in houses and, like others have said, can be caused by plumbing as well as expansion/contraction of the joists and beams in your house. This can cause a vibration that you can feel if a floor joist below you suddenly settles.

So, my most serious reply is that you're probably dealing with typical house noises while under heavy stress from your personal life. I don't see any reason to attribute these noises to the supernatural.

  11. Nobody who wasn't there can say with any degree of certainty what it is you experienced.  All we can do is provide possible explanations.

If two people witnessed the exact same thing then it's probably safe to say it isn't your imagination.  That means, unlike a hallucination, the noise was occurring independent of you.  Before you begin to explore paranormal causes it is necessary for you to eliminate *all* possible natural causes.  I don't believe you have done this.

EDIT: I see a few people are trotting out the old "young girls in trouble = poltergeist" tale.  There is nothing to back up this assertion.  No empirical data has been collected to support this.  It has not been tested as a hypothesis.  It manifested from someone drawing a deduction from a very small body of unsubstantiated data.

  12. As a rule, prepubescent girls cause  human agent poltergeists but, yes you can be too because of stress. I've seen a number of case histories similar to yours. In your case it will burn it self out once you can relax. I've been a paranormal investigator for 30+ years, and believe me, your not the first older female this has had this happen too. You'll be fine.

  13. Although I dont have enough details, I would explore these two possibilties before I jumped to any conclusions about poltergeists.

    1) You were under heavy emotional stress and possibly lacking sleep. These two things can cause auditory hallicinations. Its like your mind is going into a dream state while you are still awake. Some people live with a condition called narcilepsy. For you it would only be temperary due to the stress and sleep condition.

    2) If you rule that out, then consider this. We have hardwood floors throughout our house and when the temperature changes outside rapidly, the boards contract and expand causeing quite a din. From time to time it sounds like someone is walking down the hall or moving furniture.

  14. more likely a ghost.
