  1. I don't have a problem with a man having multiple wives or a woman having multiple husbands as long as it's all consenting adults and everyone involved is happy with the arrangements. I DO have a big problem with teenage girls being forced into 'marriage' and the whole women as property thing that goes along with many of these polygamist communities.

A man in his 50s lusting after under age girls is considered a pedo, a sick individual who is a threat to society and if he has s*x with a 15 year old he'll be straight off to prison because it's against the law. Claiming it's your religion does NOT excuse child abuse.

  2. Polygamy is the art of having many wives.  While many people are upset at the polygamists' ranch in Texas, I think you can't really blame them.  While people on the outside think it is wrong to marry young women and have many wives, I think that that's what they practice out in Texas.  It's so apart from the rest of the society that people can practice things that others might dissaprove of, and not be afraid of getting caught (excluding the ranch, which did get caught.)  It's all really a matter of opinion.

  3. I don't have a problem with polygamy per se, if all are consenting parties over the age of 18, living normal lives with jobs and stuff. What I don't agree with is girls being forced to marry old men and have babies at a young age. Also, the leaders can come and take the wives and babies of one man and "give" them to another man, like they are cars or chairs or something! That is messed up!

  4. People have a right to sign any kind of contract they want to.

Polygamy can actually benefit women. If each married man has two wives, that means that the single men have to compete more for the wives they want, meaning that mate quality will rise.

  5. I wouldn't want to do it, I want my husband all to myself, thank you very much!  But as long as everyone involved is an adult and agrees at the time of the marriage that this is how its going to be, its not my personal business to tell them to stop, I'll leave that up to the laws of the land.  It is however, against the law in this country, so in this country it shouldn't happen.

  6. What does this have to do with Home school?

Personally IMO marriage is between 1 man and 1 woman. I wouldn't tolerate another person in my marriage. My husband is mine and I am his.

I think any religion that teaches a code of silence is not a true religion of God. God gave us a command to go out and spread his word. He wants us to speak openly about our beliefs. These people have taught their children to say NOTHING about themselves. In some cases the social workers who are trying to help these 400+ kids can't even get the child's real name and age. How can they help a child who won't talk to them? I understand that the child doesn't think they need help and the life they were living is normal but some of these kids are married to men 3 times their age and are pregnant by their "husbands". That is sick! Being pregnant at such a young age as some of these girls are isn't healthy. Yes 14 yo's get pregnant all the time does it mean that it's good for their bodies? NO! Just because they can doesn't mean they should.

  7. I think that the first Amendment and fourth Amendment and fifth Amendment to the Constitution applies to them too. I think that as long as the police decided to break into their homes, they needed probable cause and warrants.  I think that the CPS involved in this case should be sued and made an example of.  Unless there was real abuse in each home, taking away all the children in the community was out of line.  I think that it is shameful that people all over this nation are not standing up to demand the Constitution be respected.

If one child in a public school were abused would they take away every child from every family in that school?

If one child in a town were abused would they come into town with armored vehicles and rip every child from every home in that town or community?

    This is a tragedy.

  8. It's not for me. I wouldn't want to share my husband (when I finally marry) with someone else, but I have nothing against other people practicing it. It doesn't hurt anyone and the people involved are typically happy and close to one another. I mean, they're all a family. I always liked the idea of big, close-knit groups living together as one family and sharing responsibilities for childcare and looking out for eachother and eachothers' children and well-being. I'd just want my own husband to myself.

  9. I am shocked at the answers you have gotten so far.  Was Adam created with Eve and so and so as his wife? Polygamy is morally wrong and it defiles the marriage institution that God ordained.  It is also illegal and they should be prosecuted. Not to mention it is pretty sick. Why are there never polygamists women with 5 husbands? Because I think women are generally more moral and smarter and keener to the law. We do live in a very sick society. God never said "to each his own". That is why the world is getting worse all the time. The further we go from God, the worse things get.

  10. Does not bother me at all if all parties are happy, responsible, of age and cared for. If they can financially support and care for their children, I'm happy for them. I don't want my tax money to pay for a man having 15 kids he cannot support. I on the other hand can barely keep up with the laundry from one husband, so I won't be adding another any time soon. Hubby is not interested in another woman in the house either, something about cycles synchronizing.

  11. My hubby takes his hat off to them, he thinks 1 wife is tough enough.  He is amazed that some men really can handle 2 or more women at once.  I think the part that sounds good to me is the youngest "sister wife" is the wife responsible for all the childcare.  It seems to fit into some peoples belief systems and I guess like anything, if you believe in it, then you have the right to try it....

  12. To each his own.

I think it's quite arrogant for people to say their way is the only right way to live.  Many people live in a variety of cultures, who is to judge which is okay, better, or best?

I'm happy practicing monogamy (don't try and stop me) :D
