Question:

Polygamous societies?

I have always wondered something about the group that split from the Mormons and still practices polygamy. It also applies to countries where men have more than one wife.

Doesn't that leave a lot of men who can't get any wife at all? It would make sense in a society where a lot of men died in war or something, but that is not the case today.

  1. yea theres more women in this world today.... cant say its a bad thing or a good thing. its just nature

  2. Women still outnumber men on the planet, slightly.

  3. having more than one wife is some times good when women are more than men to prevent adultry and to give all women a chance to have a family and children.

this is the idea in polygamy in islam as i understand.

it is even better than having single mother or babies in streets.

  4. Men with many children can't possibly find time to spend adequate time with each of them, much less with their wives. Other men's parenting skills go unused.

It only takes about 5% of the men practicing polygamy to make 10-20 percent of the men unable to find wives. When that happens, they turn to gangs, they have no incentive to work to support families, and they begin to organize themselves to take back what they think is their right. Rebellions and unstable governments are the rule. Look at the areas that traditionally practice it. Only the oil rich can compete with the countries who believe in monogamy.

In the US West during Mormon polygamy, men outnumbered women in the census, but Mormons claim there were more women to justify their history.

You may read stories by women who like it. You may have also read stories by slaves who liked slavery. That doesn't make it a good social policy.

  5. EVEN NOW,  AND THEN ALSO  MUSLIMS WERE HAVING MORE THAN ONE WIVES. IT STANDS EVEN NOW TOO?

EVEN OTHER COUNTRIES HAVE MORE THAN ONE WIFE.CONSIDERING THE RELIGION ALSO I DON'T THINK

THAT MEN ARE NOT GETTING MARRIED ?

  6. I believe that monogamous sexual activity is a choice.  As well, monogamy acts as a prevention for acquiring STD.
