  2. Polymyalgia Rheumatica is an arthritic condition whch is an autoimmune disease like rheumatoid arthritis. It is more common in females. It can develop gradually or may start suddenly.

    Even without treatment it normally passes away within about two years and with treatment it stays for a shorter time.

    Treatment is mainly with corticosteroids.

    Blood tests will confirm the diagnosis and  distinguishes it  from Rheumatoid Arthritis.

    The chief symptoms are wide spread muscle pain specially in the neck shoulders arms and the thighs. This is  also associated with fever , weight loss and anemia.

    The most important complication is Giant cell arteritis which causes swelling and weakness of arteries. This can lead to aneurysms of the aorta.
