Poly’s boys volleyball team defeats Canyon in CIF Division 1 playoffs
The Poly’s boys volleyball team was able to give the final hoot of joy as they defeated their rivals, the Canyon team in a clean sweep.
The match in which both the teams were competing against each other was part of the CIF Division 1 playoffs.
Despite the fact that Poly has not been able to show consistency in their performance all this season, they have moments in which they remind their fans that Ploy has a lot of potential. The recent match that they played sent such a reminder to both their
opponents as well as fans as Poly was able to defeat the Canyons in a convincing way.
By the time that Ploy had started celebrating and Canyon was moving out of the courts cradling their disappointment, the scoreboard read as 25-17, 25-22 and 25-20.
The variance in the performance of the Jackrabbits depends on the way they approach a match. As the team players admit themselves, the Jackrabbits perform better when they play a game in a fun atmosphere. As opposed to this, their performance experiences
a downfall when the Jackrabbits are in a tense mood.
The first set of the match started off with Poly taking control early on. This put the Canyon team under pressure from the beginning of the game. Once Poly had the lead with them, they kept on extending their advantage. Canyon found themselves to be at a
significant deficit when Poly still had the lead at 15-7. After that time, all Canyon could do was to trail behind Poly until they had bagged the first set of the game at 25-17.
After having lost the first set of the game with a considerable margin, Canyon decided to step up their game in the second set of the match. Canyon started the set with determination that led towards giving Poly a significant challenge.
Canyon found themselves to be at a leading position at 11-10. However, they seemed to relax after getting the lead and committed a few errors. This gave Poly the opportunity to push past ahead and got into a leading position. Once they had the lead, Poly
did not let go of the advantage until they had secured the second set of the game at 25-22.
The third set started with Poly taking dominance of the court with a lead at 19-9. Canyon tried to catch up but the effort came in too late. As a result, Poly grabbed the third set of the game at 25-20.
“There was a lot of stuff they went through this year,” said head coach Vuthy Cheav. “They’re coming along—they’re having fun now.  When they’re doing that they help each other.”
