Question:

Polyurethane foam pillow- - - TOXIC???

I just bought a 100% polyurethane foam pillow! I am so excited to use it, it feels so comfy!

Ironically, tonight I saw a news report- this man worked in a mattress factory and shed light on toxicity of chemicals on mattresses--it was like boric acid, for fire retardant.

So, I go get my mail tonight and in Health magazine, there is a huge write up on toxicity in our homes. One item listed is "Your Bed", and it goes to discuss the same findings. I couldn't really decipher from the article what they were saying about polyurethane, but it doesn't sound good. I went and checked my new pillow---100% polyurethane foam!!!

It DOES reek of "new smell", and yes, it smells sorta like bugspray! I can't believe it! Does anyone know about the stuff or have any links where I can find info???

  1. If you are worried about safety, you are far better off with the fire retardant.  The long term toxic effects are negligible compared to the risk of a fire starting.
