Pomersbach case should serve as warning for Aussie cricketers: ACA chief – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Luke-Pomersbach-c1856 should serve as an example
for all.
“I was shocked when these accusations first arose and there has been a lot of talk that Luke was set up,” Marsh said. “Who knows what the motivation of the accusers was but I hope it serves as a lesson to all of our players to be very careful about who they
associate with.”
Pomersbach was involved in a well-publicised drinking spree last year, and a string of disciplinary breaches finally led him to make the decision to take a break from his domestic team http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Western-Australia-c865 last season, owing to ''health and wellbeing'' issues.
The 27-year-old had labeled his participation in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League as a return to cricket, but the stint turned sour as the batsman was accused of molesting a woman while intoxicated, and physically attacking her fiancé when
he attempted to restrain the cricketer.
Pomersbach was arrested and charged under sections 323 (hurt), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 454 (house-trespass), and 511 (punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life
or other imprisonment) of the Indian Penal Code.
Following the controversy, Pomersbach, who had a 50,000 dollar contract with Royal Challengers Bangalore, was also suspended from the team.
Things took an upward turn for the cricketer when he was granted bail by a Delhi court, owing to insufficient evidence, and the complainant later decided to drop all charges against the accused. The FIR registered against Pomersbach was quashed by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780
High Court, and the batsman, who had maintained his innocence throughout, expressed relief at the conclusion of the case.
“All at the Australian Cricketers Association are hugely relieved that the charges against Luke have been dropped,” http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Simon-James-Marshall-c90362 said. “I know Luke well and I have absolutely no doubt that he is not the type of person to molest or in any way assault a female.”
