  1. I'm afraid you have the wrong idea about the Aussies -Most of them love the English - (the Brits in general). Don't forget most of their ancestors were from Great Britain. Most people don't even know the meaning of what 'POMS' stand for and it is usually used in jest and I always refer to anyone from over there as a pom, even though I am English myself. They don't mind you Scots - but have difficulty understanding your accent!!

  2. Shouldn't be a problem, just make sure you cover up your intellectual superiority.

  3. As a Pom in Queensland -up the coast a bit from the Gold Coast [NOT the best part of Queensland incidentally]  I have found the Aussies to be a bit rough round the edges with what at first seems to be a rude/cruel sense of humour.  Expect to be called a Pom anyway, They wouldn't know the difference, and a Pommie b*****d too.  It is almost a term of endearment at times, but can be said with venom.  If you can take it in the early stages, and give as good as you get, you'll earn their respect, and then you'll find them a wonderful bunch of people. I have been here since 1974 and have had no regrets at all.  All I miss now and again is the actual countryside in Sussex.  If you accept it as it is and adapt - it's a bonza place mate.  Come and get some sunshine -get ya knees brown.  Please may I be the first to say Welcome to Queensland. [I know you aren't here yet, but what the heck].

One warning - to get used to Aussie warfare stick up for England in the next test match against Australia.  You'll discover Aussie humour at it's best, vilest, and most venomous, but 99% of the time all in good fun.

Yeah, they aint a bad mob...for colonials. lol

  4. We LOVE Scots

  5. You'll be fine and you won't be the only Brit here.

Just remember to wear a hat, shirt, sunscreen and sunglasses.

That includes winter time at the Gold Coast.

We're in autumn now, winter starts on the 1st of June not that you'll notice.

Being red as a lobster and very sore and peeling won't be a good start to your new life here.

    Good luck and welcome.
