  1. Depends on the size, and what you want.

I have a 100x50x6 feet one I made, two 20,000 GPH pumps, a sand point to keep it full, and it pretty much takes care of itself. MInd you, it is a clay bottom, so it does need water on occasion. Smaller ones use chemicals to keep clean. but really, they are pretty simple now a days.

  2. no not hard to do ive built ponds it is time consuming to maintain them depending on fish or no fish with fish ull need pond clear because of the chemicals in city water ull also need liquid barly to keep the algey from forming u will also want a pump to circulate the water for o2 for ur fish a sumersable fountain can work also with out fish ul still need barly but u can also use algicide cheaper to build on own can be pricy to have a co. do it for u hope some of these tips help enjoy ur pond for any other tips u can look it up  by typing pond maitenence in ur search browser

  3. IDK, things are only hard and expensive when you want them done properly. Look at child raising. Any jobless idiot can have 8 million kids, if they are not concerned with the quality.

    But I digress.

Anything of size would require excavating equipment and operator.

If you want a smaller pond, you can dig it yourself with a pick and shovel. I've done this for fountains. You really need to ask yourself how big of a pond you'd like.

Smaller ones can even be purchased for a few hundred $.

You can wall around these, omitting the laborious digging step.

Easier to maintain than a pool. If you opt for the fountain route, you can go smaller and still be effective.

  4. A garden pond needs a bit of consideration before you start digging a hole.  You need to choose a suitable location avoiding trees and roots, full sun is best for pond plants.  Size and materials can be just about anything.  Some people use old tubs, baths, wading pools - all sorts as long as they are durable and watertight.  The usual materials used are pond liners, either pre-formed or flexible depending on what you want and what you can afford.

Ponds aren't difficult to create if you plan it out. They can be as cheap or as expensive as you want.  I have created a pond for under $500 using pond liner, rocks, plants plus a water pump.

Maintainence is not difficult if you keep the pond balanced with good bacteria, oxygen and plants.  If you add fish, the added nutrients in the form of the waste that they produce will need to be balanced to prevent algae.

Plants will need to be maintained and the water kept free of falling debris (leaves etc in the water will decay and encourage algae).

Some ongoing expenses will mainly be products to keep the water clean, but it isn't an exhorbitant cost to do this.

If you want someone to build a pond for you professionally, it will be expensive - materials and labour aren't cheap, but if you can afford it, it will add value to your property.  Look on it as an investment.
