Pond Pumps?

Question

I have been looking through pumps on the net to fit the filter for my pond and have seen lots that are submersible, have the same hose end fittings and the same flow rate but not stating the suitability for a pond. I was wondering if i could buy one of these for my pond instead of the more expensive ones designed just for pond usage and does anyone use another type in their pond?

i used a basement sump pump with a pond i had once-worked great-was a little strong sucked up the smaller fish-had to build cage around it till they grew
