Viktor Ponedelnik has blasted Hulk after the Brazilian striker failed to impress in Zenit St. Petersburg's 1-0 win in the UEFA Champions League tie against the Belgian outfit
Former Spartak Moscow striker, Viktor Ponedelnik, has blamed Zenit St. Petersburg head coach, Luciano Spalletti, for wasting a lot of money on signing Hulk during the summer transfer window.
There is little arguing to the statement that the Brazilian was particularly convinced by Spalletti to join the Russian Premier League champions this summer. The Italian tactician reportedly invested 60 million pounds to sign the
26-year-old striker from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186.
However, the mega million buy has failed to impress since joining the St. Petersburg club as he failed to score more than one goal in five league appearances.
And while the former Tokyo Verdy player failed to justify his big price tag in Zenit’s first win in the UEFA Champions League tie against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/RSC-Anderlecht-c40394 at Petrovsky stadium, Ponedelnik is of the belief that Hulk is a complete
waste of money.
Ponedelnik admitted that the Meshki are going through a rough patch, highlighting some of their disappointing results both in league and Europe during the past month. The Russian national down played the Russian outfit’s chances
to progress from the group stages.
As things stand, Zenit are at the third-spot on their respective group table. However, they still have to play tough away group stage matches against AC Milan and Anderlecht respectively.
“It's very sad, watching this match. Yes, we won 1-0, but I don’t think they deserved anything from the match.”
“The team is struggling despite investing one hundred million this summer. I remember there was a lot of noise before signing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984
but there’s a lot of difference since then and now. He did not show a highest European level quality in the match.” The former CSKA Moscow player was quoted as saying.
Ponedelnik went on to urge Spalletti to return to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926, saying that the 53-year-old has failed to meet his expectations in the European tournament despite making expensive purchases this summer.
