FC Rostov winger-c*m-striker, Florent Pongolle, remains confident that the Russian outfit can challenge for the Russian Premier League title in the near future if they keep on improving every season.
The Selmashi are enjoying their part in the premier league since 2008 after winning the Russian First Division in 2007 respectively. However, their last season’s performances left a big question mark after they finished just outside
the drop zone.
As things stand, RSM are at the 13th spot on the league table with just nine points. The Russian outfit have won just two, drawn three and lost six league matches since the start of the championship.
However, Pongolle still believes that the Selmashi are moving in the right direction by making decent signings this summer. Rostov managed to sign Benoit Angbwa, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Bentley-c10435 from Anzhi Makhachkala and Tottenham
Hotspur respectively.
The French footballer went on to reveal the reason behind moving to the Russian championship this summer. The 28-year-old revealed that he sees an opportunity to become a better player in Russia.
Pongolle revealed that he really enjoyed games against Dynamo Moscow, Spartak Moscow, Rubin Kazan and Terek Grozny, saying that he was quite impressed with the way these teams have played.
“I as an ambitious player, I love new twists in life. I want to help my team in becoming one of the top teams in Russia. Rostov have long played in the Premier League and I think the club have a great desire to win their first
ever league title.”
“I like to work ahead and do not care about which position I play unless the team is winning. At both positions feel comfortable. I have a good understanding with Bentley and Holenda as they both speak a familiar language.”
Pongolle revealed that the Selmashi need to take a big step forward in order to do better than last season after showing consistent performances. He tipped his side to go step by step in their quest to finish higher than before
this season.
