Is it okay for a Shetland pony to eat corn stalk?

  1. im kinda against feeding horses anything corn, it just ages funny and horses dont really do to well with things like that.


  2. A corn stalk?  Or feed it corn stalks instead of hay?

    Corn carries a myotoxin in its fungus that may not be visible to you but is toxic to horses.   Heat treatment kills the toxin in processed corn for feeds, but stalks probably have plenty of old mold visible on them.  

    Cattle do fine in cut corn fields eating the stubble.  

    Feed your pony clean grass hay.
