Pontic is used in what sense?

As an ethnonym, it's ambiguous as there were the Pontic Greeks as well as the Pontic Persians to name a few.

Another question regards the sense of Mediterranean: languistic, ethnic, or simply geographic classification, or other?

One these two matters have been cleared up, it would be easier to answer your question.
