Ricky Ponting, Rahul Dravid advocate use of UDRS
Australian captain Ricky Ponting and former Indian captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rahul-c83321 Dravid have both said that the Umpires Decision Review System should be used in Test match cricket. While the UDRS is being used for most
of the Tests around the world, the Indian cricket has yet to permit the use of the UDRS for any Test matches involving India.

The rules stipulate that the UDRS can be used in a Test series if the boards of the both sides are okay with it.

“I believe that one should use the UDRS system for international matches. When I came here, I wanted to know whether we would be using the UDRS system. I think if you use the UDRS, you get more correct
decisions and it's not hard on players,” said Ponting.

Ponting was speaking to the media and responded to the few incorrect decisions that were taken by the umpiring duo of Ian Gould and Billy Bowden in the recent Australia-http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Captain-Gould-c41006 declared Ishant
Sharma out when the ball was sliding down the leg-side, whereas Bowden gave Pragyan Ojha not-out when it looked like he was plumb in front of the wickets. There were poor decisions given against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gautam-Gambhir-c58623 and Michael Hussey as well.

However, Indian cricket board secretary and president-elect, N Srinivasan seemed to be in no mood to relent as he said that the umpires were humans and could make mistakes, and that was part of the game.

“As of now, I can tell you that we are not thinking about using the UDRS for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 series," he added.

Dravid said, “If we can have a common sort (uniform) of system in every series, I see no reason why we cannot have it,”

Dravid added that if the technology was foolproof then it could be used as a part of the umpiring decision making tools. He also added that for UDRS to be used, there needed to be uniformity in the tools
that can be used for it and there should be no ambiguity about it.
