Captain Ricky Ponting and all-rounder Shane Watson have been called back to the Australian cricket squad for the ODI series against Sri Lanka after a short break. Fit-again glove-man Brad Haddin has also been included in the 15-membersquad.
NSP Chairman, Andrew Hilditch said that the selection of ODI squad for the home series against Sri Lanka marks the get going of a burning summer of ODI cricket for the Kangaroos as they continue preparation for the 2011 ICC Cricket World
Cup where Australia will be defending its title.
The return of Ponting, Watson and Haddin, however, shut the door on the belligerent Callum Ferguson and David Warner, who were part of the squad for the recently-concluded ODI series against India but failed to get a game after two of the
three ODIs were washed out. Like the Test series, the ODI leg was also lost by the Australians 1-0.
"Unfortunately this has meant that both David Warner and Callum Ferguson, who were in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 with for the One-day series have not been selected. This makes way for the return of several of our key batsmen", said Hilditch.
NSP Chairman did opine that both the young players would be given chances to play in the domestic circuit and press for selection during the summer by scoring plenty of runs.
Coming to the bowling side, Mitchell Johnson has been called back to lead the pace attack after being given a break. Young pacers have been given a chance to gain international level experience.
"We have several key fast bowlers out of the side at present with injury, but this does create a great opportunity for several or our young fast bowlers in Mitchell Starc, John Hastings and Clint McKay to continue to gain experience on the
international stage”.
Xavier Doherty’s several impressive seasons for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854 Tigers earned him a call to the national side. Earlier his remarkable performance in the domestic One-day tournament was duly rewarded when Doherty was called for the Australia A side
this year.
Off-spinner Nathan Hauritz, due to his domestic engagements, will miss at least the opening game of the one-day series against Lankans starting from 3rd November. The Weet-Bix Sheffield Shield clash at the Gabba starting from
October 31 will provide the off-spinner the best preparation for the demanding summer, which includes the Ashes Series against England and concludes in the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup in the Indian Subcontinent.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s assignment against visiting Sri Lanka would start with a T20 international on 31st October followed by three ODIs.
