Ponting admits an Ashes defeat this summer could end his reign as captain

Ricky Ponting, the talismanic Australian skipper who is going through a run of defeats for the first time in his career, admitted on the eve of third Ashes Test against England that his future in the game is in doubt.
The losing streak of Australia which started back in July during their tour of England got a pause when the Aussies won a one day international against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 – though the series was lost by them by 1-2, their ever first series loss against
Lankan at home – but the pressure came once again on the men from Down Under as England took lead in the ongoing Ashes series by winning the Adelaide Test last week.
Looking at the victorious form of Strauss’s men, it seems Ponting is just a game away from becoming the first Australian captain in 120 years to lose Ashes urn thrice. The Tasmanian batsman, keen to avoid an unwanted piece of Ashes captaincy
history, conceded that the Ashes defeat could bring an end to his reign as Aussie captain as he said: "Probably not a decision for me to make, is it," adding "I don't pick myself as captain so... the decision's completely out of my hands.”
The prolific number three batsman of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 is also lacking runs as his past 33 innings have seen him scoring just one century and that has come some eight Tests ago. He has also been unable to impress with the bat in the ongoing series
with a tally of just 70 runs from four innings at an average of 23.33. He said that he will try to score runs and give the fans some winning news this week.
"At the end of the day, I'll do my best to make sure we're on a winning end this week and I'll do my best as a player to make sure I score runs and lead the team the best way possible,” said Ponting. Then the powers-that-be will make those
decisions I guess at the end of the series, or after this Test match," he added further.
Ponting told the reporters that since the Adelaide Test he has been relaxing at home and has tried not to think too much about the game. Ponting is well aware of the importance of top-order’s performance in a victory as he said:
"I know a lot of our success revolves how well our batting does at the top of the order and my input in the series so far hasn't been what it's needed to be for us to win games.”
