Ponting calls for separate window for IPL in Future Tour Programme – Cricket News Update
The Club vs Country debate has resurfaced with the inauguration of the latest edition of the lucrative Indian Premier League as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377 has called for a separate window for the Twenty20 tournament in the Future Tours Programme of the International
Cricket Council.
The former Australian captain, who has recently been axed from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s one-day squad, feels the club vs country conflict will stay there as the players earn far more in such cash-rich leagues than they get while playing for their respective countries.
"You can understand the players that are opting out of international cricket to go and play IPL," said Ponting on Tuesday.
“…it'll probably happen more and more with the amount of money that's being spent in those Twenty20 comps around the world," he added further.
Ponting’s comments have come after the rookie http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sunil-Philip-Narine-c91869 preferred his commitment with the IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders over an expected maiden Test call-up in the upcoming three-Test series against Australia. Narine, who
was the star performer for Windies in last month’s five-match ODI series against the Aussies (11 wickets in five matches), preferred a US$700,000 KKR deal over Tests.
The Tasmanian batsman appreciated http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 Cricket’s decision not to schedule any international cricket during the IPL season and urged the rest of the boards to follow NZC to avoid the conflict of interests.
"New Zealand's a good case study there, they just don't schedule any international cricket when the IPL's on for the simple reason they would have lost most of their players to IPL and been left with next to nothing,” said Ponting who led Australia to back-to-back
World titles in 2003 and 2007.
"I think there's something to be learned there,” the Australian insisted.
Replying to a query regarding Michael Clarke’s deal with Pune http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warriors-c861 for the latter stages of the IPL-5, Ponting said that it was Clarke’s personal decision and he did not have any issues with it.
The latest edition of the money-spinning Twenty20 league kick starts in Chennai on Wednesday, April 4, 2012. The tournament opener will be played between defending champions Chennai Super Kings and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
