Ponting, who was axed unceremoniously from the national ODI squad in the middle of the recently wrapped up triangular series owing to his poor form, is duly impressed with Cowan’s superb 143 – the left-hander’s third Sheffield Shield century.
“He keeps playing the way he is, he'll find himself playing a lot of Test cricket,” Ponting said.
“He's as good as anyone in the country I think. If you look at his record here, and he's got to bat on wickets that have done a lot and do a lot right through the game ... that's quality batting.”

He was dropped from the ODI squad owing to extremely poor performances with the bat, and while he expressed the desire to continue with Test cricket, it remains to be seen if he can find his way into the squad for the extended-overs fixtures.
