Ponting disappointed with batting form – Cricket News Update
Mumbai Indians skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377, admitted that the only major concern for the side has been the form of their openers, including himself.
Ponting’s comments came after the highly followed Indian Premier League franchise suffered one of their most embarrassing defeats at the hands of the highly unfancied Rajasthan Royals, led by none other than http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Dravid-c2229.
Having being asked to field, the Indians failed to restrict the Royals’ batsman, which ended up amassing a competitive total of 179 on the board, courtesy strong displays from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajinkya-Rahane-c970.
In reply, the tourists failed completely, with Ponting and fellow-opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Tendulkar-c2556 again falling cheaply. Despite being the two biggest cricketing names, both players have struggled for runs in the ongoing tournament, with the former scoring just
52 runs from the five matches so far, while the latter making 69.
This has put added pressure on the middle and lower order, which comprises of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KA-Pollard-c1754. All have been in good knick with the bat this year but failed miserably against the Royals, which ultimately restricted the Indians
to a lowly 92.
The defeat again raised concerns over the team’s opening composition and Ponting conceded that lack of runs at the top has affected the side’s showing against the Royals.
"The two guys at the top of the order haven't done the job required off them by the team," Ponting said. "We are five games into the tournament; both of us need to play better. If we want to continue winning games and if we want to be the team at the end
of it that holds the trophy up, then you need everyone in the team performing more often than not. Neither of us has played as well as we would have liked. I'd expect a lot from myself from the first few games compared to what I have delivered."
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837 Royals will look to maintain their impressive streak when they travel to Bangalore.
