Ponting feels on top of batting again – Cricket News Update
Australian veteran batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377, says that he has indeed overcome his technical frailties of last season and is feeling on top of his game ahead of the highly anticipated series against South Africa.
After struggling for the best part of last year, Ponting finally hit form during the team’s home series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in December-Jan, where the player averaged an impressive 108.8 from the four Test matches.
With him now not playing any part in the international limited-overs arena, it has further allowed the player to get an extended break and focus on a proper training for the first time in almost 20 years. That paved way for an impressive start to the Australian domestic season, where Punter represents http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854.
His stellar century in the ongoing Sheffield Shield clash against Victoria was a clear indication that he is back to his best. He ended day one on an impressive 89, and remained unbeaten on 162 before team skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Bailey-c1480 decided to declare at 439 for 5. It was his 78th first-class century, during which he further notched up 23000 first-class runs.
His imperious form will be seen crucial as his side prepares to lock horns with the newly crowned no.1 Test side http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in July- August.
Ponting himself felt that he has overcome the difficulties of the last 12 months.
"The technical deficiencies that I battled (last year) seem to be a long way away now," he said."I'm getting some results and feel like I'm actually on top of batting again. Batting's starting to feel a bit easier than it did 12 months ago."
"All the shots of old this week were there, the on-drives, and lots of good pull shots as well. That's a good indicator for me that technically I'm in good shape, I'm watching the ball closely and my balance is really good," he said.
"That's where I want to be scoring runs. If you look through my career that's where I have always scored my runs."
The Test series begins from November 9th.
