Ponting realistic about his place after Adelaide failures - Cricket News Update
Australian veteran batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377, while talking to Channel Nine, admitted that his lack of runs in the Adelaide Test has put his place in jeopardy for the 2013 Ashes series against England .
The news came after Ponting was bowled by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DW-Steyn-c1409, dragging one onto his stumps for just 16 runs in the second innings at Adelaide. With this dismissal, the Punter stood at 20 runs in his past three innings, inviting further criticism.
Ponting may just be playing his last series, as an exit now may not see him returning to the fold. Knowing how important the next performance at Perth is going to be, Pointing said, "I haven't spoken to the selectors anything about my immediate future, I'm
sure that conversation is going to come in the near future but nothing has happened just yet. The disappointing thing for me about the start of this Test series is I have felt in really good touch."
The end of the ongoing series against the South Africans will force the Australian selectors to consider younger talents lined up for Sri Lanka’s tour Down Under. Having insufficient runs to plead his case, Ponting will most likely announce his retirement
if not selected.
"I'm a realist. I live in the real world and I know if I'm not getting runs I might not make the summer out and I definitely won't be in England," added Ponting.
The 3 match series stands balanced (0-0) at the moment after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Faf-du-Plessis-c1427 stood tall on the final day at Adelaide on an unbeaten 110 to save his side from a defeat, with just 2 wickets in hand.
With the 2nd Test resulting in a draw and Australian players showing significant signs of injuries towards the end of the game, the selectors are likely to consider a number of alternatives for the 3rd game, scheduled at Perth.
