Ricky Ponting ruled out of Sydney Test
Broken figure has ruled Ponting out of the next week’s Ashes finale against England. This was confirmed by Cricket Australia on Thursday. The stand-in-captain is yet to be named and is expected to be confirmed by the end of Thursday, 30th of December
2010.
The Australia team’s physio Alex Kountouris told the media that the latest X-ray of Ponting’s injured finger has revealed further complications to the injury, which he picked in the third Ashes Test against England in Perth.
"Ricky Ponting had a repeat x-ray after the fourth Test which showed evidence that the fracture of his fifth finger has moved during the course of the Melbourne test," http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alex-Kountouris-c43123 said.
Kountouris further added that the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854 batsman needs to start treatment right away “to achieve a satisfactory outcome.” The treatment options, according to Kountouris, include an immediate surgery or a splinter to stop the mobilisation of the fractured
finger to avoid further aggravation.
Ponting injured the little finger of his left hand in an unsuccessful attempt to take Jonathan Trott’s catch at the second slip at WACA on the third day. The X-ray showed a small crack and the Australian captain spent the fourth day in the dressing room.
His inclusion into the fourth Test was also doubtful and this led to a late announcement of Australian squad for the Perth Test. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746
lost by an innings and 157 runs as Ponting lost the urn for the record third time as captain.
Responding to a question about Ponting’s return, the team Australia physio was hopeful that he will be back to the game in the later part of Australian summer though he did opine that his comeback depends mostly on the speed of recovery.
"His return to cricket will be based on how quickly the fracture heals and he will hopefully commence training in the later part of the Australian summer," Kountouris said. "He is expected to be fully fit for the World Cup," he added further.
