Ricky Ponting has been sent home from the Carribian because of his wrist injury,it is much worse than first thought.

He has indeed suffered a tendon injury in his right wrist..

My question is how long will this sort of injury take to heal?..

Our next match is not until the Champions Trophy matches, and that is in September..

Michael Clarke will therefore be captain again in the last ODI..

  1. It will depend on how bad the injury is and if it requires surgical correction or not.  So could be a couple of weeks of rest or a couple of months with rehab :-(  All is not lost; it might give him a chance to freshen up by getting away from cricket for a while.

  2. he would be fit for champions trophy

  3. wrist injury. also out of form

  4. I hadn't heard this Ange, but it's not good.Hope it's OK soon

  5. Usually wrist injury takes around 2 to 4 weeks to heal. But since there is not enough information about Ponting's injury I can not tell for sure. In any case he should rest and not play in Bangladesh series

  6. A tendon injury can take days, weeks or even months to heal, depending on its severity.

It is unlikely that Ponting has suddenly suffered this injury; it has probably been building up for a while.

Common treatment is to rest it, but he may need to take anti-inflammatories, possibly ultrasound treatment, or even cortisone injections in or around the affected area.

So whether he plays in the Champions Trophy matches in September really hinges on how bad the injury is.

I would suspect that Ponting will not be rushed back too soon: Cricket Australia would rather see him fit for the long term, and will feel confident that they can cope without him in the short term.

The last thing they want is Ponting rushing back, aggravating the injury, and missing next years Ashes.

  7. well considering when the next tournament is, i think he should be okay by then, but i dont know alot about this sort of thing

but lets face it, there was only one match of the series left so someone like David Hussey gets another chance to shwo what hes got, lets look at that as the bright side

  8. That sucks! I really hope he plays in India, the series won't be as fun as it could be without him.

I think a wrist injury could take up 7 to 9 weeks but lets hope he comes back sooner.I had a similar wrist injury while playing rugby at school and it took me 7 weeks to get it right.

I think he deserves a fair chance at improving his average in India before he retires. As a great Aus cricketer he deserves it.
