Ponting thinks England batting will be nervous
Ricky Ponting has fired a salvo at the English batting before the start of the Ashes by calling it nervous before the start of the series. England are the current holders of the Ashes that they had managed
to win by triumphing in the previous edition in England, but they are yet to win an Ashes series in Australia since 1986-87.
Ponting pointed out that three of England’s top batsmen could be under pressure going into the Ashes. He said that Kevin Pietersen was obviously an iffy candidate with his recent poor record while dismissing
Alastair Cook and Paul Collingwood as any kind of threats.
Ponting said: "Kevin Pietersen, obviously, is a big question mark for them at the moment. Alastair Cook is just holding on to his spot by the skin of his teeth, and Collingwood has probably not had the best
Test summer of his life either. So there is enough happening around there to know that they will be a little nervous when they arrive in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746."
Ponting may not be too far from the mark given that Pietersen’s batting against Pakistan in the four innings that he played meant that he was given the axe from the ODIs that followed. Cook was under huge
pressure going into the third Test match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 given his lack of form but managed to eke out a century, while Collingwood has had six single-digit scores out of the eight innings he has last batted in.
What Ponting did admit was that the English bowling was much better than their batting and could be a huge threat in Australian conditions. He added, “Graeme Swann is probably the stand out. Stuart Broad,
and probably their captain [Andrew Strauss], these have been the guys who have stood up for them over the last couple of years.”
The first Test match of the series starts from 25 November at the Gabba in Brisbane.
