Ponting wishes for Lee and Tait for World Cup
Ricky Ponting has said he hopes that Brett Lee and Shaun Tait attain full fitness ahead of the next year’s World Cup that will be played in the Indian sub-continent. Tait has been out of the Australian squad due to an arm injury while Lee’s career seems
to have dived southward after a spate of injuries have meant that he has rarely played more than one series in a row since mid-2008. Both Lee and Tait and retired from the Test match format of the game and focus only on the ODIs and the T20Is.
Speaking to the Australian, Ponting said, "Brett, Shaun Tait and Mitchell Johnson together could be key bowlers in those subcontinental conditions. It would be pretty exciting as a captain to have them to call on. Hopefully, Tait and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lee-c72382 can both be right,"
Lee, who is making a comeback into cricket from his injury, had earlier expressed his interest in playing for Australia in their series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758. Lee has more than 300 wickets in 186 ODIs and along with Tait is one of the quickest bowlers in the game.
He scalped a couple of wickets in the domestic one-dayer that he played for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823. Ponting admitted that if Lee’s fitness held up, he could be a vital cog in the wheel.
When asked about Lee’s issues with his fitness, Ponting said, “"Brett has always looked after his body well. I know he will be fit and strong. He was last time he came back after a layoff, but unfortunately another part of his body gave way. Still, it will
be a big effort."
Tait had ended the previous World Cup in 2007 with the highest number of wickets. Australia are three-time defending World Cup champions.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, Australia had gone in
with Clint McKay and two debutants in Mitchell Starc and John Hastings.
