well, sachin is indicating he wants to play until the next world cup, and sachin has 39 centuries, where as ponting as 34, so ponting is 5 behind. Sachin is 35 yearls old, and ponting is 33 and half years old. so there is only 1 and half years difference. sachin is in good form, and ponting is in very bad form. however in one dayers no one will probaly ever come close to beating sachins record of both runs and centuries. sachin is much better than ponting, and there shouldnt be no comparasion between the two.

Sachin is shrewd tht is the reason he not retiring as yet, do you think people will let him.  Ponting will not be able to reach the milestone, maybe if he plays more against Bangladesh and other teams he will keep on scoring whereas Sachin has been rested against these minor teams.  End of the day quality matters not quantity LOL

I think he will. I notice in ICC rankings, Ponting is now no. 2 on 942 only behind Hussey.In all time rating average, Ponting is equal 3rd with J hobbs,behind Bradman & Hutton. Tendulkar is 25th on 898
