Pony Express to face Power Horse in United States Polo Association Sun Cup Finals – US Polo Update
The polo team, Pony Express, comprised of legendary players has set a spot in the May 1st finals of the United States Polo Association Sun Cup after they managed a victory and a draw in the three-squad round-robin held at the Grand Champions Polo
Club in Wellington, Florida.
In the opening game of the round-robin, La Pasion-Port Mayaca edged past Piaget by one goal, 4-3. Tracee Brunetti was one of the leading scorers for La Pasion with a couple of impressive goals. Stevie Orthwein and J. J. Celis added one goal each in the victory.
From the other side, Chris Nevins notched a pair of goals of which one came on a penalty shot while other from the field. Marc Ganzi, the captain of the Piaget side converted a solitary spot shot and added a goal in the loss. La Pasion-Port Mayaca with opening
victory took a narrow lead in the three-team contest.
In the same spirit, La Pasion-Port Mayaca faced a talented foursome of Pony Express at the same venue. However, they were unable to show an impressive performance and three-chukka game ended with a five-all tie. Carlos Gracida was featured in Pony Express,
but he too failed to get a victory in the significant game.
The two teams contested the game at very high momentum and kept the spectators excited. Mariano Fassetta and his team-mate Tracee Brunetti scored a couple points each to put La Pasion-Port Mayaca ahead on the scoreboard. Orthwein scored off a penalty shot
and expanded the lead up to five points.
From the other side, Bob Daniels and Lucas Lalor scored three and two goals respectively and had it even at five-all. The game concluded with a draw.
In the final game of the three-team contest, Piaget faced Pony Express that displayed an impressive show and rode off the field with a commanding 5-3 victory. After winning the game, Pony Express confirmed a spot in the finals of the USPA Sun Cup on Sunday,
May 1.
Gene Goldstein of Pony Express opened the scoring by converting a penalty shot in the very first minute of the last competition. However, the strikers from Piaget were not sitting motionless. Sugar Erskine and Chris Nevins scored one goal and established
their dominance in the game.
In the second chukka, Bob Daniels and Lucas Lalor scored one goal each to take the game into their favour. Another Piaget goal went up on the scoreboard from Marc Ganzi to tie the knots at three-all. In the final period, Lucas Lalor connected on another
shot to regain the lead for Pony Express.
Gracida in the last moments of the regulation time period notched another score and sealed the Pony Express victory in the crucial game. With the victory, they earned a berth in the finals against Power Horse.
