Pony Express wins Consolation match after round-robin competition: Polo Recap
Pony Express emerged victorious in the three-team round-robin consolation competition of the 2011 Polo Gear-RoxWorld TV Invitational that took place at the Grand Champions Polo Club in Wellington, Florida.
In the opening game of the three-match round-robin, Elangeni Ranch marked a win over Pony Express by a single goal, 8-7. It was a high-scoring contest of the consolation round where fifteen goals were scored in three sets of play.
Tomas Goti scored the first four goals of the game in the opening seven and half minutes of play to put the opponent, Elangeni Ranch, under heavy pressure. The players from Elangeni Ranch could score only two goals in the first frame and trailed by
two goals, 4-2.  
In the second chukka, Juan Chavanne and Diego Coscio scored two and one goal respectively, for Elangeni Ranch. From the other side, Bob Daniels and Tomas Goti added one goal each to retain their lead. At the end of the second period, Pony Express was
holding a single goal lead, 6-5.
However, the final round was dominated by Elangeni Ranch, which scored three goals, while limiting Pony Express only for one goal. Coscio scored all the three goals against the single goal of Tommy Biddle and sealed the victory at 8-7.
In the second game, Newport-Port Mayaca trounced Elangeni Ranch By a single goal 2-1, which was the lowest-scoring game of the competition. Gene Goldstein and Chris Nevins scored one goal each in the first and second chukkas respectively. From the
other side, Coscio managed it one goal for Elangeni Ranch in the third chukka and lost the game.
In the final leg of the three-match round-robin consolation, Pony Express took Newport-Mayaca down by two goals, 5-3 and won the consolation round.
Tommy Biddle scored a goal for Pony Express while Gene Goldstein managed it for Newport-Port Mayaca in the first set of play. The defensemen from the two sides showed outstanding performance and blocked numerous shots from the other side.
Stevie Orthwein and Biddle exchanged one goal in second chukka and moved into the final set of play to decide the consolation victory.
Biddle and Goti scored two and one goal respectively, in the final frame while minimised Newport attack only for a single goal from Orthwein. Pony Express won the game and having better goal-scoring ratio captured the consolation round. Juan Chavanne
was selected for MVP award while 61, the black horse of Goti was awarded the Best Playing Pony award.
