Question:

Pool, the new Chess?

I find that when I have a game of pool (8 ball or 9 ball) that there is so much strategy involved. I find this smiler to chess where your always planning more than one turn ahead. I find this the same with pool.

Even though chess is still a popular 'sport' or better classed as a game, do you agree with me that pool is becoming the new age chess.

I will agree on one thing now. Chess will always be 'the' classical strategy game (or among them), but I think that pool is becoming more and more popular.

  1. By all means I quite often compare pool with Chess but Im not really a chess fan

    But yes a good point

  2. now that u mention it i see it to a degree.  but both also have elements that will never let there be a full cross over. chess will forever be the king of strategy while pool can be played by both the thinking and the bashers

love play chess againest those that don't form a strategy makes it so fun to watch them try and counter the entire time.

  3. Very similar in that a player will do better if he/she is able to see several shots into the future.  Pool is different, however, in that a person needs to make a shot to get to each of the following shots.  That's why I love pool.

  4. your right i think pool is chess for drunks

  5. They are light years apart ! If a pool player was allowed to 'move' one ball after his opponents shot it would be more like chess where your opponent moves a piece after your move. Come to think of it , that could make pool really interesting ?

  6. All sports are have strategic games. That's true pool becoming popular and popular. It's really cool if you watch pool in the T.V. however, if you watch chess in the T.V. that is not cool. It's BORING

  7. Comparing chess to 9-ball...

Chess: there are 16 pieces where only one really counts

9-ball: there are 9 balls of where only one really counts

    Chess: capture the king

    9-ball: sink the '9' ball

Chess: one move at a time

9-ball: shoot 'til you miss or win

Chess: knights, rooks and castles "allowed" to jump or slide past several spaces or over other pieces until position on board is advantagious to player

9-ball: shooter "not" allowed to move around or pass one or more balls to get to the '9'. Must hit next ball in rotation even if hooked

Chess: no time limit between moves

    9-ball: 30-second shot clock

Chess: easy to jump pieces for position with knight

9-ball: not so easy to get position after a cue ball jump

I'm not going anywhere with this... just thought I'd grab two points. Y'all have a nice day, now.
