Pool B qualifiers: 2011 Rugby World Cup
England confirmed their place in the final eight of the tournament following their hard fought victory over their European rivals, Scotland, on Sunday, October 1. Besides England, Argentina is the second country from Pool B of the 2011 Rugby World Cup (RWC)
tournament which has secured a quarter-final outing.
England finished as the leaders of pool B after winning all four pool games. The wins include their two point victories over Georgia and Romania. Other than Argentina, the rest of the four teams in Pool B were all European teams.
England opened their 2011 RWC campaign after marginally winning their close encounter against the Los Pumas. England scored 137 points in the tournament so far, which includes their 18 tries. They have conceded just a single try in their matches, so far
in the RWC tournament.
Argentina are placed at the second position in pool B, with 14 points. Argentina secured their quarter-final spot following their single point win over Scotland. Pumas 13 – 12 win over Scotland left them with a difficult task of winning their last pool game
against England to secure their place in the semi-final.
Argentina lost just a single game and conceded just three tries. They have scored 90 points during their four matches and landed 10 tries. They were dealt a few severe blows as some of their important players’ sustained serious injuries but most of them
recovered to play for the squad in their important game against Scotland.
Scotland had a relatively poor start to their 2011 RWC campaign, as the European minnows Romania scored 24 points in the game and remained in control for the most part of the match. In the end Scotland were able to end on the winning side, with a final scorecard
reading 34 – 24.  Similarly against Georgia they won the game by a margin of just six points and failed to avail an easy bonus point. They scored just 73 points, conceded 59, and scored just four tries.
Scotland finished third with 11 points. Georgia finished their 2011 RWC campaign, with a single win over their European Division One rivals, Romania. However, Georgia will be pleased with their overall performance in the global showpiece tournament. They
conceded 90 points but also scored 48 points. Besides this, they also managed to score three tries while they conceded 9, which as compare to Romania’s 21 tries is not a bad effort.
Romania ended their 2011 RWC campaign without a point. They even failed to register a single try or losing bonus point during their four pool games of the tournament. Their opening game against Scotland was their best game in the tournament.
