  1. I'd start here:

While he talks mostly about kicking, the systems apply to banking as well.  If you want a great book with more advanced systems, I'd recommend Freddy "The Beard" Bentivegna's book, Banking With The Beard.

I've seen systems for one, two, three, four, and five rail banks.  They're tough to explain here, but much easier with drawings and diagrams.  Searching some of the online pool forums will yield good advice.

  2. The diamonds are evenly spaced so measure the distance between the ball and the pocket and aim to the mid point on the opposite rail using the diamonds as a reference.

  3. For one rail and even 2 rails banks, the diamonds aren't really needed for anything but something to aim at on some shots. The diamonds come into play on banks of 3 or more rails, where the "diamond system" and other aiming methods come into play.

I have provided a link a simplified diamond system that shows you how to use the diamonds. The second link goes to the lessons section of the website, which contains several more articles on banking. Good luck and have fun.

  4. The diamond system is an invaluable tool for banking and making a good hit when your opponent had buried the cue ball on you. I listed a book as a source that every pool player should have to enhance their game at every level. The author has a few publications that should be added to your library as well.
