Question:

Pool Filter and backwashing doesn't work after replacing O ring on Skimmer box?

Hi

I have an above ground pool with a Swimpro sand filter, the O ring on the skimmer box was broken and water was leaking. I replaced the O ring, which stopped the leak but now the filter doesn't work. When I turn on the filter, there was suction on the creepy crawly for about 30 seconds and then stopped. When I turn the filter to backwash, no backwash water was released. There was a previous answer about too much air in the skimmer box (http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080429214433AABbzEi), I tried the suggested solution but it still doesn't work.

Thanks in advance.

  1. What you can do is put some vaseline over the o-ring and make sure it doesn't pinch. If air is coming into the system you battle to get it out. What you can do is run the filter and then put the hosepipe at the suction end in the pool. This will fill it up and get it going. If there is still an air leak it will gradually get worse and stop.

Make sure everything is super tight.

  2. Check the suction side of the pump, it sounds as if you have lost suction there, or you have an airlock in the line to your skimmer box. Have a great day.
