Hi, I'm new with pool heaters, do these work with propane tanks such as the ones for BBQ grills? do you place it inside the heater? or do you need to run some propane pipe back to a bigger tank? I have an above ground swimming pool that needs a heater, which type would be the fastest to get installed and running? thanks to all

  1. bbq tanks cant  be used becuase there is not enough vaporization. depending on the size of the pool heater which most i have been hooking up are in the range of 150,000 btu's you will need a 100 gallon tank or referred to as a 420. just keep in mind that some of these units will burn a gallon of l.p per hour or more and with the prices the way they are now maybe a solar cover would be the cheapest?? trust me any fuel company will take the business tho  so shop for the best price before committing

  2. Costs a lot to heat a whole pool with 15-20,000 gallons of water.  The most cost effective way is to use a heat pump see www.pentairpool.com for more info.  These are electric but more efficient than natural gas and made to heat the pool year round.  Solar only gives you two months more to the season and not in the winter but does help.

    You're welcome!!

  3. It would require a much larger tank than does your grill. The heater size would be dependent on the size of your pool. I have 1 that is fired with Natural Gas. It is for heating a hot tub that is connected and circulated through the pool also. Check with a pool dealer in your area. Here we really don't need one at this time of the year.

  4. Did you look into solar heat?  Much cheaper with the price of gas and stuff these days....

  5. they have propane pool heaters just like the regular natural gas heaters, but they have different gas valves and orifaces...in the long run,it may be more cost efficient to get a heat pump and not have to worry about propane refills....or a small above ground solar unit for about 170 bucks...heres a link with info on all three items: http://www.swimming-pool-information.com...
